What is temporary staffing?
A temporary employee is the best way to fill a short term or indefinite need and provides maximum flexibility to manage staff resources. The temporary employee is considered a Lawyer’s Staffing employee; we will bill you an hourly rate that includes all costs.
What is a temp-to-hire?
Temp-to-hire employment combines the flexibility of temporary staff with the opportunity for an extended trial period before hiring. During the trial period, the employee works as if on a temporary assignment, combining all costs in one hourly rate. Temp-to-hire legal secretaries and receptionists are available at no additional cost to you after working for you while on our payroll for 480 hours. Paralegals, other legal specialists and attorneys are eligible for hire, at no additional cost to you, after completing 1000 hours on our payroll. If you would like to hire an employee prior to completion of the required hours, you can do so by paying a pro-rated fee that is set forth in our Terms and Conditions.
What is a direct hire?
A direct hire is appropriate when a search is required to find an outstanding candidate with specific skills and experience. It provides the maximum size candidate pool as all presently employed candidates are considered. A search/recruiting fee calculated on starting base salary is paid for finding an ideal candidate that is immediately hired by your organization. The search fee is comparable to internal hiring costs. However, a much larger candidate pool is developed and risk is minimized by the Lawyer’s Staffing guarantee outlined in our Terms and Conditions.
Why are attorneys available for temporary work?
Attorneys are available on a temporary basis for many reasons, including but not limited to, relocation, recent graduation from law school, corporate restructuring due to merger or acquisition, supplemental work while opening a practice, or the need to work a flexible schedule for various reasons.
Will I be sent a temporary employee with experience in a specific area of law, if requested?
Yes. Lawyer’s Staffing is continuously recruiting candidates with experience in every area of law. If you need a legal professional with specific legal experience, simply inform one of our qualified legal recruiters and we will see that your needs are met.
What kind of guarantee does Lawyer’s Staffing offer for temporary employees?
Lawyer’s Staffing offers an 8-hour credit if our temporary employee does not meet your requirements, provided we are contacted during the employees first day on the assignment.
Is Lawyer’s Staffing a member of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants?
Yes. Lawyer’s Staffing has been an active member of the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (NALSC) since 2000 and adheres the NALSC Code of Ethics.
How does Lawyer’s Staffing handle conflicts checks?
Lawyer’s Staffing understands the importance and sensitive nature of protecting client confidences and being certain that the legal professional working for you has not worked on the same subject matter for an opposing party. To ensure the confidentiality of your clients, we will have any potential temporary employee complete and return to you your conflicts request form prior to beginning assignment.
What ethical issues are involved in using temporary attorneys?
The American Bar Association has addressed ethical issues such as confidentiality, disclosure and surcharges surrounding the use of temporary attorneys in several Formal Opinions, most recently Formal Opinion 00-420. The Virginia State Bar has also addressed similar issues in Legal Ethics Opinions 1712 and 1735. We emphasize compliance with these opinions and encourage you to contact one of our legal recruiters should you have any questions.
